Frequently asked questions
Why can a MikroTik link stay down even when the module rate looks correct?
Check the exact device and RouterOS support, auto-negotiation or forced speed, rate-select behavior, FEC at both ends, coding and the opposite endpoint. The visible data rate alone does not identify the cause.
What FEC information is needed for 25G or 100G?
Record the current FEC setting at both endpoints and the optic or cable standard. MikroTik documents that SFP28 and QSFP28 FEC may need explicit configuration, and both ends must use compatible settings.
How should a BiDi pair be specified?
Provide both endpoints and confirm complementary transmit and receive wavelengths in both directions. A single wavelength or one module label is not enough to validate a BiDi link.
What should be considered when using S+RJ10?
Confirm the target device, negotiated speed, copper cable category and length, available cooling and neighboring module placement. MikroTik provides specific thermal guidance for this high-power copper SFP+ module.
What should be captured for a no-link or flapping case?
Record RouterOS version, device and port, module identity, speed and negotiation state, FEC, DOM/DDM values if available, both-end settings, cable path and error counters. Then change one variable at a time during testing.
